That is horrendous, I can imagine those awful kids and want to give you a big hug for what they put you through! I had to deal with “are you a boy or a girl” and bullying about how I looked (damn short hair cut!) but… (Evil cackle) look at us now ay?! If we could tell our child-selves what they had to look forward to maybe it wouldn’t be so bad. X

Its such a difficult thing–because you can’t shield your children, but you want to protect them–and while being bullied was so awful and alienating, it was, on some level, character building–your boys will be brilliant, we miss them so!!

Kids can be so incredibly cruel (and they don’t suffer the consequences like adults would, eg. going to jail for assault) – I can just imagine you in school Alicia. What I hated about school was being told it should be the best time of my life – I remember thinking, if this is the best time, jeez the rest must be pretty shit. I’m already thinking about how I can help give our boys the social skills to survive school – I know they will stand out because they will be tall, and they are already shaping up to be soft hearted wee boys. Maybe a martial art, to give them confidence, and a team sport, like soccer or rugby, to give them a crowd to hang with …

I was having the same conversation about bullying with friends the other day, the part about social media. I’m so glad I wasn’t around for that. I was definitely bullied when I was younger, but I’m so glad there was a reprieve at home! Great blog!
